Children Who Are Just In it for the Pool
We went to the house of some (grown-up) friends' today, and they have a pool, so the understanding was that we would, at some point, visit their pool. Eventually, after much lobbying from the boys, we went over to the pool and had a swim, and as we were making our way back to to the house, I asked the boys if they had a nice time in the pool. At this point, Ian let the cat out of the bag, about his ulterior motives in being at this get-together:
"That's actually pretty-much what I'm here for."
I feigned taken-aback-ness and asked, "You're not here to mix and mingle?"
Ian indicated that mixing and mingling was rather more my domain than his, and Daniel reinforced this biased perception with his own embellishment:
"Yeah, Daddy, you do that all the time, and it's really boring."
