Celebrating Pride
Daniel has been making excellent, self-driven progress recently in the direction of diaper-independence. When he takes care of things in the proper place - especially if it's a substantial delivery - then I spontaneously sing the song by Mr. Roger, "I'm Proud of You."
[Lyrics: "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of you, I hope that you're as proud as I am...." I'm sure that Reverend Rogers would have been extremely pleased to hear that his song was being used for this kind of reinforcement.]
(Ian, by contrast, never seems pleased when he hears my bathroom serenade to Daniel...)
But today, in the process of "follow-up" to such a visit, I hadn't sung anything - I was mostly tending to logistics, and Daniel asked me:
- Are you proud of me, Daddy?
- I'm very proud of you!
- Then why don't you sing the Proud Song?
(Of course, the Pride Song followed...)
