Crossing the line in Inter-gender warfare
Ian is perplexed that the boys in the recess yard are attacking the girls, and even more perplexed that the girls are not doing anything to protect themselves. He talks about it all the time. He has made ample mention of "the castle," which turns out to be, in grown-up terms, a tree stump in the school yard. He used to mention the combatants in evening prayers, asking God's blessing on them - particularly the girl's team, I think. Eventually, he couldn't bear the tyranny of the Y-chromosome any more, and he switched sides. He's now on the girls' team, along with a few other lads.
He talks about it as an ongoing struggle - something that involves "juggling".
And apparently he's putting his life on the line, in defending the lassies:
"Zack or Codie or Jimmy almost killed me - almost made me to go to the doctor."
I don't understand it, and I haven't been able to put the details together into a coherent whole, but I still think it's hilarious.
