Puerto Rico's Linguistic Gift to the Iberian Peninsula
Daniel loves Spanish - something I'm very happy to see - and he turns out to have the family gene of loving and thriving on language acquisition, but I completely loved a question that he had a few weeks ago about the language itself:
"Daddy, do they speak Spanish in Spain?"
It's a perfectly reasonable question, since for us, in the U.S., Spanish is the language of Latin American immigrants, but most people can go many years without meeting anyone from Spain itself. I think Madeleine was asking me a similar question about English recently - whether they speak it in England. Again, perfectly reasonable: we know English is our language, there's no saying what language they might actually speak over in the United Kingdom.
