When he was still Chancellor, Helmut Kohl once admitted, in a moment of refreshing candor, that when he wakes up in the middle of the night, he's thinking about what's in the refrigerator, rather than about his place in history.  By contrast, Ian wakes up fully focused on the Big Picture.

As I was blogging this morning, he came downstairs with a pillow in his arms, looking quite groggy, and after the initial salutations, began his formal conversation with me as follows:

"Dad, what I'm planning on doing this year, is knocking out all my opponents' Pokemon before the Pokemon are even played."
