A Youthful Perspective on Age-Old Wisdom
In the car, this evening, on the way back from his baseball game, Daniel spontaneously mentioned that the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover," is not always helpful. Particularly, he pointed out that if you see the cover, you can probably get a pretty good sense of what the pictures inside it look like. I asked him how this applies to books that are mostly text, but he didn't really have any thoughts about that.
Then I suggested a revision to the whole don't-judge-a-book thing: Don't judge a book by the stuff inside it. I asked Daniel how this new bit of wisdom sounded.
"It sounds terrible."
