May the Rain and Cold Bring Joy To Your Day...
This is the last weekend that York's Wild Kingdom is open - a combined zoo-and-amusement-park in Maine - so the children and I made our first-and-last visit of the summer today. We had serious overcast at home, so I looked up the weather forecast for York, Maine. It said York had a 10% chance of precipitation, so of course it ended up raining.
Luckily, the rain started not too long before the park was supposed to close, and it was somewhat sporadic, but for awhile, first Daniel and I, and then Madeleine and I, were on a ride with a modicum of rain falling on us. This ride was a wild spinning-and-twisting adventure - fast and circular enough to get me pretty dizzy, and to thrill both of the children. When it rained on Madeleine and me, Madeleine pointed out that, in this rapidly, randomly, spinning and twisting mode, with water spraying on us, it was like we were in a washing machine.
But Daniel had a more interesting outlook. He and I were talking about the combined unpleasantness of the cool weather and the rain, and Daniel observed:
"It's better to be cold and wet than just cold."
I can't imagine anyone else in the world having this perspective. It's hard to imagine someone who's already code speculating, "But it wouldn't be so bad if only I could also be wet..." As usual, Daniel has shared a thought that only he could possibly have...
