A Literary Reflection on Day-to-Day Life
[Both boys have an assignment in their respective classes, as Ian described it, to write journal entries to "family members or pets" - something along those lines - reporting on events in class, or maybe the news of the day in their own life. Ian's is being maintained in a notebook; Daniel's format is apparently loose-leaf. We're supposed to write back as well. I've already read and responded to Ian's first journal entry, addressed to me (and, delightfully, signed "your loving son, Ian"). Ian brought me his notebook and explained the process. Daniel's letter to Mom and Dad, I only found by chance in his knapsack:
Daniel

Dear mom and dad
Ryan, a kid in my class had v.i.p. V.I.P. is something like show and tell for a weak, not very important person. on day 1 he picked things from the class room. On day 2, he brought a book. On day 3 he picked a game from the class room called story cubes were you shake them and look at the cubes and tell a story of what you see. On day 4 we wrote a poem of what he likes and is like. In class we did leaf research. We were looking on ipads at leaves. We also colored leaves in on a sheet of paper with the leaf shape and name. We also got paper with the leaf research hilighted the important words and put it on another pice of paper and used that to draw a picture. I hope you enjoy this letter.
Love,
Daniel
