A Celebrity Named Ian

Madeleine often address me as "Mommy."  Most of the time she corrects herself, but it seems that sometimes she doesn't even notice the technical inaccuracy.  Amy tells me that after I've spent a day with Madeleine, she'll often call her "Daddy."  But with Daniel, things are different.

Daniel sometimes calls me "Ian."  He idolizes Ian.  We'll be out and about, with any number of options for play and adventure over the weekend or on a given evening, and when I ask him what he wants to do, he'll sometimes say something like, "I wanna go home and play with Ian."  Especially if we're out of the house for an extended period, Daniel starts to miss Ian.

When Daniel was small, Amy noticed that if he ever saw anything interesting or exciting, he would immediately run off to alert Ian to his discovery.

And the Ian Fan Club has more members.  Madeleine is quite outspoken about how much she loves Ian.  It's only recently that she has stopped talking about her intention to marry him (although I haven't heard that she has consciously disavowed that aspiration). She has been known to say, "Daddy, you're the king and Mommy's the queen and Ian's the prince and I'm the princess..."

Ian is a very popular lad around here...
