The Vitality-Restoring Power of a Snow Storm
Daniel had a rare treat this morning: he slept until after 8:00, for the most wonderful reason that it was a snow day and school was cancelled. Never mind the fact that we got about two or three inches; I guess the school system panicked at the outset, and thousands of children in our town had an exceptionally good day as a result.
So Daniel did something of a double-take, and asked me, "Wait, Daddy - do I have two days off?" This is actually the case, since tomorrow is a school administrative day and the kids get to stay home, and today's snow day makes it something of a mini-vacation. So yes, I gently broke the news to Daniel that he had no school.
And the reaction was beautiful: Daniel, who had just been about to go back to sleep when he got the update, suddenly jumped up from bed, threw his arm into the air in jubilation, cheered, and bounded out the door and down the stairs to the happy world of video games. What's hilarious about all of this is that if it were a school day, he would have been completed exhausted, and sunken back to sleep within a couple of minutes.
Inspiration is energy.
