Mommy on Your AM Dial

Mommy was on the radio today, in her capacity as an estate-planning attorney.  She works with a high-profile estate planner who has his own radio show, and he interviewed her for part of it.  At the time of the broadcast, which had been taped the previous day, she was on her way to one of his seminars, so she wasn't there to listen to it with us.  But I set up our lightweight, low-budget, yellow plastic mini-boom-box in the kitchen, on a window sill, and as soon as she started speaking, I urged the young'uns to drop what they were doing, come into the kitchen, and  listen to the radio.  I didn't tell them what was on, since I knew the element of surprise would make it much more fun all around.  Ian's prompt obedience was its own reward;  as soon as he got into the kitchen and listened, his face lit up:  "Is that Mommy?!"  Then he announced to the stragglers, "Hey guys!  Mom's on the radio!!!"  The audience quickly assembled.

Everyone's reaction was very moving.  Beyond the obvious excitement and even mild astonishment, everyone manifest their own flavor of enthusiasm.  Daniel pulled up a cantaloupe and sat on it next to the radio, resting his face on his hands, with his elbows planted on his lap.  Madeleine danced around, "Yay!  I've never been happy before!  I'm so proud of Mommy!"  I'm assuming and hoping that she meant, "I've never been this happy before." Ian wanted to call into the show, until I explained that it was pre-recorded.

This evening, when Ian and Daniel were playing Mine Craft remotely with one of Ian's friends from school, Ian and his colleague had an interesting conversation about the episode:

"My Mom was on the radio day?"

"Doing what?"

"A guy that she works for wanted to have an interview with her, and that guy apparently has his own radio station."
