Maidan Reverberates With Demands for New Video Game

Daniel wants to purchase a new video game.  For a period of time this morning, he was subjected to the "Go ask your father" torture.  I was almost inclined to say yes just  for the power of surprise and serendipity, but I really think video games are bad for the kids and cut into quality of life very significantly. I took yesterday off from work, since the kids were  on vacation, and as we left the house, Daniel was not pleased that he was going to spend the day somewhere other than home.  I don't think he'd have quite the same reality-aversion if if weren't for the XBox.  So I said no.

But in the interim, he had apparently read one of his books, to prove to Amy that he does, indeed, read  books.  She quizzed him on the content.

Our house has been transformed into a protest plaza with a single demonstrator wailing, ritually, sonorously, in a way that can't possible be spontaneous.  Apparently the way to get video games is to scream until someone relents.  But best of all is the bitter self-recrimination he bellowed, referring to his fruitless attempt at proving that his life isn't entirely consumed with video games:

I just wasted my time reading a book!
