The Intellectual Dynamo, In Sickness and Health
Ian has a terrible stomach flu, but his mind is sharp and active as ever.
His stomach had an unfortunate eruption at the rehearsal for the Christmas pageant at church, and I had to drive him home. Amy put him in a warm bath, and he lay there, with the back of his head and his ears submerged in water like some kind of wholeness-restoring oriental spa treatment, and when I went in to talk to him briefly, he posed a thoughtful question, more or less verbatim as follows:
"Dad, do you know why Mom likes to watch sad movies? She watches movies that aren't sad and cries, and she watches sad movies and cries through them, and still she keeps watching sad movies."
The stomach might be under siege, but the mind is working at full capacity, if nott in overdrive.
