Counting the Days So You Can Concentrate On Other Things
Both boys summons me to the most unusual place, in the evening, where they hold court with a very select audience. I suspect they don't see any point in wasting the time; when you're stuck in one place, you may as well surround yourself with people you like to talk to. Someone told me that Lyndon Johnson used to do that in his capacity as president; I hope not.
In any case, Daniel called me to the door outside the room where he was temporarily indisposed, to ask me a very important question:
"Daddy - how many more days until Easter?"
This is a new one. I count up the days until different important milestones all the time - usually his birthday, Christmas, the end of school, or the advent of Winter - that season of joy for small people who don't drive or own property. But the Easter season?
It turns out that Orthodox Pascha - the "Easter" that matters for us - is going to be April 20 in 2014.
So for anyone else who needs to know: 167 days. Everyone can now go back to their (less-)important activities.
