A Timely Reminder To Discuss Snakes
Ian has many more things to think about than he can accommodate in real-time. Luckily he has me as his personal organizer software to take recorded notes of the things that he has to think about and pursue in some near-future timeframe. For example, when I put him to bed, he will enumerate four different kinds of animal motifs for Pokemon that he intends to "create" the following day; my job is to remind him of what they are so that the artist can carry out his plans without being set back irreparably by an inconvenient bout of sleep.
Tonight, I was putting him to bed, and I sent him upstairs, with the understanding that I would follow withina few minutes. At that point, he "recorded" one of these not-so-digital reminders with me, so that I could play them back once I was up in his bedroom. The reminder:
"There are several other things that I want to talk to you about. When you come up, tell me 'Snakes'."
And snakes it was. Once I got up to his bed, he pointed out to me that although pictures of snakes and sightings real-life snakes can be beautiful (except when they're in your bulkhead and Mommy is the beholder, as we discovered about a year ago) - in spite of the obvious beauty of snakes in the wild and in photographs, nobody imagines double-headed snakes or double-tailed snakes to be beautiful, even though they actually would be.
Needless to say, neither of us has ever beheld a double-headed or double-tailed snake - as far as I know. And also needless to say, the very idea of these most aesthetically pleasing animals has something to do with Ian's world of Pokemon, whether custom-conceived or available in the conventional market of Pokemon cards and cartoons.
