The Folly of Caution
Amy did something completely unreasonable with our cable service: she set things up so that, aside from the Disney Channel, the kids can't select any program to watch without her entering some mysterious PIN code which only she and I know. (The kids don't know that I know it, so I'm not one of the bad guys so far...) The result is that there are all kinds of wonderful stations, like the Cartoon Network, which they can't access to watch those so-very-age-appropriate shows.
Ian was complaining this morning that he wanted to put on a show for Madeleine, but he couldn't because he didn't know the code. Then he put it all into perspective:
"I think that's a really bad idea. I mean, I always check to make sure it's okay for whoever's watching it."
I don't think Amy had thought of that when she set up this draconian program-locking system; she doesn't need to monitor what the children watch, because she has Ian to do that for her.
