I Knew Percy Jackson, and Senator, You're No Percy Jackson!
These days, when Ian goes almost anywhere, he looks like a librarian. He tends to carry two heavy books with him, into and out of the car, and then when we get to a venue, he'll sometimes walk around with a book in his hand, reading until we start some activity that requires his full attention. The books in question are Percy Jackson books, and when he's not reading them to himself, he's sometimes either reading excerpts of them to someone else (probably Daniel, maybe me), or he's recounting stories from it or talking about its characters. Yesterday, he didn't want to let me go to work until he had read a couple of very important pages of it to me, and I think he even came in to wake me up - or "see if I was awake," so to speak - so that he could share this literary material.
So you might think that he'd be very excited about the upcoming release of the first Percy Jackson movie. And you'd be wrong. In fact, Ian told me last night that he doesn't think he wants to see it any more. Why? Because he saw previews, and all of the characters in the excerpts from the movie look entirely different from the way that he has been "seeing" them over this summer of very intensive reading.
