Boy's Best Friends

We're going away for a couple of nights, so the dogs went off to the dog-sitter's house.  I drove them there this morning, and Daniel was assigned to accompany me, after one-too-many aggravations inflicted on Madeleine.  Daniel said "Yay!" when he found out that he was going with the dogs, and they sat with them in the back seat the whole way there.

At one point during the ride, I heard him say, "I would feel a lot better if I knew what you were thinking."  Of course, I asked for clarification, and he said, "I was talking to the dogs."  He went on to talk about one of Phineas and Ferb's inventions - a machine that could tell you what your dog was thinking, and asked if I thought such a device was really possible to make.  He also asked whether dogs do talk, and we seemed to agree that when they bark, it's some sort of "speech."  He also wanted to know if there are dogs who understand Spanish.  Sometimes the questions are easy.

As we got back into the driveway at the end of the trip, Daniel captured the bitter-sweetness of the moment perfectly:

"Well, I'm gonna miss the dogs... Well, it's good that they're not going away forever."
