When Daddy's Tyranny Becomes Systematic
Ordinary minds perceive events; great minds perceive patterns.
I have this annoying tendency to come home on Tuesday and Thursday evenings - the days when our Summer Nanny is in charge, and there's a direct transfer of power from one departing authority to another, arriving one. I get home and announce to the boys that they have a limited period of time to complete their video-game-playing. If it were up to me, they wouldn't even have video games, but since they do, and Ian is usually playing Mine Craft when I get home, I try to "grandfather" in the existing video-play-time for a specific "grace period" - maybe half an hour, but I announce that he has this limited time up front.
Ian sees this draconian trend, and has spoken up:
"But Da-a-ad!!! I don't like this pattern!!!"
When the Next Generation starts protesting patterns, you know you're facing a new level of "challenge"...
