The Prosecution Never Rests

Whenever we go to the beach, Daniel seems to have an insatiable urge to throw wet sand.  Things are especially severe when we go to the pond - in the ocean, there's to much literal upheaval for him to be focused overwhelmingly on this important task, but in the tranquility of a small Northern New England pond, he has the luxury to think about how and when he might throw his next handful of mud from the pond floor.

On Saturday evening, he and Ian were throwing pond mud at each other, and I had to put on my Bonnet of Dictatorship as I loudly and sternly decreed:  "The next person I see throwing sand is getting a timeout!"

Ian immediately saw a flaw in the directive, and alerted me as to how that crafty Daniel might exploit such a legal imprecision:

"But Dad, Daniel's just gonna find a loophole, like the first person you see."

At least I was very relieved that Ian hadn't thought for even a moment about bending the regulations in such an unscrupulous manner.
