The Case of the Missing Video Game
I would never go out of my way to take the children into a used video-game store - and I would make a point of avoiding it. But yesterday, we had friends visiting, and the son wanted to visit such an emporium so we all went. In short order, Daniel had found a skateboarding game, and Madeleine had found a princess game. I invoked all kinds of budgetary deliberation protocol to justify "tabling" the discussion of acquiring new video games until I have a chance to consult with Mommy - face to face, of course. Daniel wasn't discouraged from his campaign by all of hat bureaucratic stalling, but then he found his own reason to give up on The Cause: He opened up the video game case and found that the DVD itself was entirely missing, so he announced, as he showed it to me:
"Forget it, because look!"
I observed the sorry state of the empty video-game case, and somehow didn't manage to explain to him that they're all empty - that the DVD's themselves are stored behind the counter until you actually get around to purchasing them.
He soon discovered this tragic reality himself, and yet he didn't put two and two together before it was time to leave the store, so unfortunately, we still don't have any new video games to bring quality to our time at home.
