Recognition

The other morning, as I was leaving for work, Ian was already downstairs in the family room playing video games and/or watching TV, as he and Daniel tend to do as early as 7:00, or whenever they wake up.  But this particular day, he said something that showed me just how aware, and sensitive, he was, to the fact that I was going off to work.  As I said goodbye to Ian, he said something I had never expected to hear from my nine-year-old son:

"Make sure you reward yourself for all the  hard work you're doing."
