Enthusiastic Conversationalist
The other night, I lay down with Daniel and, surely for the first time in my entire life, I went right to sleep - perhaps even before Daniel. Ian then came into the bedroom, and started talking at great length about something he is excited about. I'm not completely sure what it was - it was either this new video game that he and Daniel play until we make them stop, at which point they discuss it with each other in agonizing detail - or there's a remote possibility that it was Pokemon. But whatever it was, he kept saying things like, "Dad - can you wake up, please? I need to tell you about this." I would nod, recognize that I couldn't remember any concrete, conscious experience prior to that admonition, "listen' as best I could for a minute or maybe less, and then go through that cycle again.
But the following morning - or maybe the morning after - Ian put it all in perspective for me. Again, he was telling me about something - probably one of those two hot topics listed above - and then he interrupted himself, saying something like, "I don't know why I'm telling you this - I just like telling you things. I really love telling you things!"
Although the subject matter is very interesting in its own right, of course, I must say that his explanation, that he loves telling me things, really makes it all very worthwhile.
