Better Half-A-Viewer Than No Viewer At All
Ian has a taste for the good life, and he wants good things for his father.
Ian loves television and movies, and he wants me to enjoy them with him. He knows that one of the few shows on TV that I actually enjoy is "King of the Hill," so he makes a point of trying to schedule a viewing for me - along the lines of "Dad, your show is playing in ten minutes!" I don't entirely know how to work the new TV/DVD-player/home-entertainment-center/home-theater. We've only had it for about seven awful months, and I mostly only know how to turn it on and off, and if it defaults to cable, I might be able to find something, although now that Amy has locked all stations except The Disney Channel, there's nothing for me to watch, and Amy has somehow managed to forget her PIN so she can't watch anything else either, and neither can the children, and that's all surely for the best. But I digress...
Tonight, Ian put on a movie, and he wasn't entirely pleased that I got on the laptop and started blogging (he'd be much more upset if he realized I was blogging about him!). Technically, I'm within view of the screen, but it's mostly flying children with UFO gadgetry and burning hair - in the end, for whatever reason, they opted for the much-viewed Spy Kids 2 rather than Teen Beach Movie. (Spy Kids 2 is "on demand" which means that you can watch it any time you want, thanks to the beneficence of Comcast, and also that the young'uns can access it without knowing Mommy's lost PIN, since it's not on a station, and therefore not "locked". Don't ask me to explain it all...)
So they're watching this surreal movie that has sent Madeleine out of the room covering her eyes in horror at least once already, but Ian still wants me to view the film with him - because he wants good things for me, and surely Spy Kids 2 is quite good.
So as he passed me in my craven blogging frenzy, he made a modest request:
"Dad, please half-pay attention to the movie."
