A Pirate's Life - Looking The Part
At bed-time tonight, Daniel was diligently putting on a pirate-style bandanna, and he wouldn't let me turn out the light until it was in place.
Ian very slowly and methodically began breaking to Daniel the devastating news that in the real world, all a pirate is, is someone who-
Daniel cut him off: I know! A robber in the sea!
Another Disillusionment Moment unfulfilled...
Ian went on to talk about some video he had seen of a real pirate - in Africa, he thinks (no doubt Somalia...), and how he was riding away in a motor boat with something like $60. Apparently piracy is quite lucrative.
Also, Daniel mentioned a recent and bitter disappointment.
Daniel: At Adam's birthday party, the only thing that I didn't get was the thing that I wanted the most - a fake eye-patch.
Ian: Why do you want a fake eye-patch? You can get one at the doctor's office.
Ian then went on to tell Daniel about a boy in his class who got a fake eye-patch from the doctor, to test his vision, and he wore it for about half a year.
