Another Tooth Liberated!
Today was a special day. Partly because I got to sleep late, but much more because of Daniel's exciting development, and in fact, one event influenced the other. I was lying in bed and from somewhere downstairs - probably in front of the TV - the children's quiet, solitary ritual on Saturday mornings - I heard Daniel call for me in great excitement. He had just lost a tooth!
This wasn't completely unprecedented; it was actually his third lost tooth. But he was so excited, he insisted on calling Mommy, who was in - or on her way to - Boston at the time, and Mommy rose t the occasion with all of the anticipated tonal exuberance.
I jumped out of bed and made a proper fuss, and he ritually felt his the gap, and commented that his gums were "gummier" than he had expected. Daniel got hold of a sandwich baggy, into which he zipped his tooth, and talked extensively about the tooth fairy and how she might bring him as much as five dollars. He then wrote something like "Daniel's tooth" on the bag; not a bad thing to do, considering that he often sleeps in Ian's bed, and vice versa, although I don't think that was the motivation.
But later in the day, he was wistful: "It kind-of makes me sad that I can't feel my tooth any more."
Apparently, it was fun to lose the tooth, but disappointing that there's nothing left to wiggle.
