A Child's Cherished Memory for the Season
Let's face it: not everyone can be Daniel, and most people's little best-Christmas-ever stories get a bit trite and sentimental, with all that stuff along the lines of "family gathered around yon yule log with hot cider" and "sitting 'neath the tree singing old-time carols" and the like. But not Daniel - he's got a heartwarming memory which shall live throughout the ages.
He came home from school with a little project he had worked on with his teachers. On a background of Christmas-colored flowers, there's a photograph of a grinning Daniel, standing in front of a bookcase filled with Christmas books, and stapled underneath the picture is a quotation from the lad, citing his fondest Christmas memory of all time:
"My favorite holiday memory is when my neighbor gave me a toy cane with gummy candy."
Many readers will pass this true-life tale of inspiration to all that they know, to spread cheer and hope as we venture into the new year.
