The Boy Whose Birthday Went Unnoticed

Daniel had his solemn Chuck E. Cheese birthday ceremony yesterday, so all is well that ends well, but the day didn't start out so gloriously  In the morning, he announced, quite indignantly:

"Today is my birthday,  and nobody wished me a Happy Birthday."

With my own operational biases, though, I might not have expected him to notice that collective faux pas, for the following two (irrelevant) reasons:

1.  His birthday - in the sense of the anniversary of his birth - was actually many days ago, and yesterday was merely the day of its formal celebration among his contemporaries.

2.  When Daniel observed this slight on the part of his parents and siblings, he happened to be the only person awake.  In fact, it was with this stirring correction that he woke me from my slothful sleep.
