Precociously Caustic
I took the boys with me to get birthday cards for Mommy a few months ago. I was very impressed at the way that they worked together to find a card for her from the children - something rather ridiculous, if I recall, that they both found really funny, along the lines of a dog eating birthday cake on the front of the card.
But Ian had a bit of unsolicited advice for me in my own task of selecting a card for Amy:
"Okay - and can you try reading it this time."
He seemed to be making a subtle reference to the time that I got Amy a card that looked nice on the cover (I hate verbose greeting cards, which is most of them, and find them painful to read). It really was a lovely card, but it had some small-print on the front that read something like, "Now that the children are grown up and it's just you and me...")
