Travesty!

At church, while the children were playing outside, Ian apparently discovered, and greatly enjoyed, riding on a scooter and one of the mothers, Pam, eagerly reported to me her brief conversation with him about his new enthusiasm.  She was apparently more impressed with his language than with the scooter itself.  She said he was zipping back and forth on it, and finally she said something like, "Ian - it looks like you really like that scooter.  If you have a birthday coming up, maybe you should ask for one!"

At that point, Ian's response was something along the following lines, "That's the travesty of it!  My birthday was in September, and my party was a couple of weeks ago!!!"

So Ian was chagrined that he discovered the scooter right after the one opportunity, aside from Christmas, to ask for a big present.  But I think what struck Pam more was that this cruel timing of his discovery of the scooter turned out to be an actual travesty.  She seemed to think that most people that ride around on scooters talk about travesties...
