On Drinking
I was reading something out loud about someone "who didn't drink or smoke," and Daniel volunteered this commentary on the lifestyle in question:
"Well it's bad that he doesn't drink, but good that he doesn't smoke."
Ian had a similar reaction to the category of drinking a year or two ago, when I was in the car with him and a commercial came on the radio for an alcohol-dependency study that was looking for volunteers. It began with a woman talking, in that made-for-radio dramatic tone, about how she has a problem with drinking - friend and family told her she was drinking too much, but for a long time, she didn't listen to them (until some reality-check that followed). Ian, hearing the whole thing, mentioned that he, too, had a drinking problem, but his was that he didn't drink enough.
I suppose too much or too little can be a problem.
