Budding Conversationalist

Tonight, as he was taking a bath, Ian kept me by the tub for an extended period of time as he posed one question after another, slowly, methodically, almost formulaically, as to how I felt about those two very original thinkers, Obama and Romney.  I was puzzled as to his thoroughness of questioning, because I haven't exactly hidden my attitudes about these people.  Each time, he would say, "Dad?" in a sing-song tone, and then slowly work out some ever-more-nuanced question aabout what I thought about each of them.  But eventually the inspiration for his line of questioning came out:

"Dad, I just wanted to get a good conversation going.  That's why I was asking you those questions."
