Seeing Beauty in All Things

Our house has a few wonderfully tacky features which we inherited from the previous owner.  I'm pretty sure that one of Amy's top items for the proverbial home-improvement chopping block is a trim which goes around the top of the kitchen wall, a lively-colored fruit pattern - a green apple, a red apple, a pear, a cluster of grapes - repeated over and over again, over the refrigerator, then the counter, the sink, more counter, the stove...  A tasteful ivy-ish vine stands in the background of the fruit still-life throughout.

I think we're all very likely that Amy is far too busy to actually carry through her intended purge of this lovely Salute to the 70's, because it turns out that it's even more wonderful than I had imagined.  Daniel and I discussed this inspiring display in the kitchen this morning, as follows, indicating in the direction of the fruit trim as he spoke:

Daniel:  Daddy, I think the fanciest part of the house is probably that.

Me:  The trim?

Daniel:  The line of fruit.
