Parental-quality altruism, at such a young age...

Tonight we went to the video store, and I let each of the boys pick out a video.  Unsurprisingly, we left with a superheroes video for Daniel and a Pokemon video for Ian.  What really impressed me was that Ian actually requested a video for Madeleine as well; as if he somehow had some insights into the young lady's enthusiasms, Ian picked out a movie about Zhu Zhu Pets.  When he brought it home and showed it to her, she hugged it.

So the one remaining question is whose video would the children watch tonight - or at least start watching, until bed.  I told them they had to work it out amongst themselves. Ian came by sometime later to ask me if they could watch their movie.  Did they have a movie picked out?  Indeed, they did:  Daniel's superhero movie.

And this is how they arrived at the selection:  Ian simply decided that they would watch Daniel's movie.  I was intrigued as to why they settled on Daniel's movie, and Ian's explanation for his acquiescence to the junior member of the duo was charming, and quite moving:

"The only one who disagrees with it is me, which is fine, because I'm me, and so I don't have to worry about anyone else being upset about it."
