The Many Uses of Snakes
Ian loves animals and Daniel loves animals. Love comes in many flavors.
Ian particularly likes furry little mammals - gerbils are the best example. But when I saw a snake today - a very small garter snake - in its standard spot, on the stairs in the bulkhead - Daniel got very excited. I was trying to figure out how to minimize the chances of it coming into the house "proper," (or biting me, as unlikely as that probably is) while also carrying twelve 40-pound bags of salt pellets, for the water softener, into the basement down that very same snake-enhanced bulkhead staircase. But Daniel had other thoughts; he wanted to know if we could keep it for a pet.
But again, love has many contours. In short order, Daniel had another idea about the same snake:
"...or maybe we can cut his tongue off. The tongue doesn't stay off for very long."
So he wanted to perform that magic of snake tongue removal, with the understanding that another tongue would quickly grow back.
But no such magic was actually attempted today.
