Generation Gap, For Some

Teenagers and 20-somethings have a cultural connection with Ian which apparently I do not.  When Ian "won" a stuffed Pikachu at a local amusement park about a month ago, he was practically saluted by a young female employee who would shout Pikachu's name a bit the way Japanese pilots in American World War II movies shout "Bonzai!"  Our twenty-something babysitter not only watches Pokemon with the children - she sings the Pokemon theme song with fervor rivaling Ian's.

But old people are different.  Today, I learned, in Ian's presence, that it's Paul McCartney's 70th birthday, and I could suppress an outburst of "Oh wow!"

Ian wanted to know what caught my attention.

"Paul McCartney is 70!"

"Who's Wall McCartney?"
