Gainful Employment for Miners

The boys did not get their zeal for precious minerals from the Irish side of the family.

At this moment, he is crouching in the driveway, hammer in hand, pounding away at stones, in order to remove the crystal that they contain.  In fact, he has two piles of stones - the ones that he thinks contain crystals, and the others.  

A year or two ago, Ian was determined to dig a mine in the side yard - a gold mine.  In fact, he spent some serious time trying to figure out how to secure the mine once it was properly uncovered, to prevent unscrupulous prospectors from mining our gold while we sleep.
