Yet Another New York Paradox
Daniel and I had a visit to New York - just the two Daniels - back in March, to greet the newly arrived Cousin Caleb, and it was one of the few extended periods I've had alone with Daniel. One thing that was especially amusing was his reaction to New York itself. As a child of northern New England, he was perplexed at the apparent presence of trash in various places throughout the city. I explained to him that that's New York, but it took him awhile to process the idea.
As we were walking around the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, Daniel reflected on his new synthesis of the paradoxes of the city:
"Things in New York are dirty, but the people are really nice, even though things are dirty."
