Would-Be New Yorkers in rural New England

During this past weekend's trip to New York to attend Cousin Caleb's Baptism, Daniel revealed something quite unexpected:  the lad wishes to live in New York City.  I pointed out the high-rise apartments and explained that people generally live in little pieces of big buildings like that, rather than in single-family houses, and Daniel mentioned that he wants to live in an apartment.  

There's nothing remotely surprising about Daniel's new wish - except for the fact that he's only six years old.  This is one of the many things that set The Daniels in contrast with everyone else in the family. 

In fact, I took him for a subway joy-ride, even though we didn't really have time or anywhere to go.  Just one stop, in Brooklyn,and then we turned around and went back.  But I knew it wouldn't be wasted on him.
