Vision of Things to Come
Tonight, we were in downtown Portsmouth, and Daniel saw, on the roof of a residential building, a handful of 20-something urban dwellers sitting in white plastic patio chairs on the roof of a low building, obviously having a nice little get-together. Quite unsurprisingly, Daniel stopped in his tracks and stared, and then shared exactly the pattern that his mind takes in this kind of situation:
"When I grow up can I have a party on the roof?"
But then he decided not to sell himself short, saying something like, "Maybe when I'm, like, ten, can I have a party on the roof?"
