The Frustrated Prodigy Pedagogue
Amy told me this morning that yesterday, after school, Daniel held up an orange and asked her, "Mommy, what shape is this?"
Amy answered, "A sphere."
At that point, the story goes, Daniel threw himself to the floor in a fit of rage, yelling something like, "They lied to me at school. They told us if we ask our parents what shape an orange is, they'll say "A circle," and then we can tell them it's a sphere."
So Daniel was set up to correct his elders, including Mommy, Esq., who apparently didn't meet the expectations of Daniel's kindergarten teacher. Amy said Daniel was quite furious over the whole thing, and she offered to re-do the dialog, this time answering "A circle," as expected. Daniel was still upset, so Amy asked if he would prefer that Mommy were not smart.
At that point, he had to laugh.
