Men, Great and Small

Daniel asked me this evening, "Daddy, are some men that aren't old, little?"

Ian explained that dwarfs, or "dorfs," as he pronounced it, are real, and went on:

Dwarves are men who are old, and we are small men who are young. They're called 'little boys.'"

"They" in this place, is that abstract demographic of which Ian and Daniel are members.
