Wonder Nation

We are now a Wonder Woman family. Amy gets the credit; last night, she introduced a measure of Affirmative Action into our SuperHero culture, watching Linda Carter circa 1976 as the hero, along with Madeleine and Daniel. When I started watching, I came to an immediate appreciation of this supreme superhero, and you can be sure that Batman, Robin, SpiderMan, etc. don't even compare. Overall, Wonder Woman really caught on in this house. Everyone seems to be a fan, with the possible exception of Ian.

So this morning, Daniel announced that Mommy had said they could watch more Wonder Woman today, and he was rather eager to go upstairs and pursue the matter with Mommy, who was asleep with Madeleine (or trying to return to sleep). I didn't think this was a particularly good idea, so I presented my own alternative. I asked, "Daniel, do you want to watch Wonder Woman?"

Yes, he did.

So rather than waiting to watch some streaming video online from some stale production from the 70's, I offered my own live, vivid, impromptu re-enactment, spinning in wacky circles the way that Wonder Woman does when she's metamorphing from the mousy secretary into everyone's heroine; jumping; looking fierce. I did a similar presentation for Madeleine last night, and she nearly cried; I'm a very powerful actor.

Daniel didn't cry, but he did offer his own very subjective reading of the performance:

"You're acting more like this crazy person... who's very mean and doesn't love his son."

But he's wrong. Wonder Woman loves his son very much.
