A Thickly-Accented, Incomprehensible 20th-Century Dialect
The other night, I was trying to help Ian with his Latin homework, for his online Latin class which was to take place the next day. I got a bit impatient with Ian's rather persistent lack of attention to the subject, and his deliberate distractions and antics, and I found myself saying, more than once, "Tune in!"
Finally, Ian forced me to confront how 20th-century I really am, lo these more than eleven years into the new millenium, and how quaintly irrelevant and undecipherable my terminology has become:
Of course, it helps that we don't have a TV. But still, I was surprised. He really didn't know what "Tune in" meant?
"'Never heard it before."
