Ladies and Gentlemen, We Hope You Will Not LikeThis

This afternoon, Daniel eagerly called me into the room so that he could perform for me his latest feat, of standing on a chair, somersaulting through the air onto the mattress, and doing an additional somersault on the flat surface itself.

I didn't know what to say, so I said, "Daniel, you're a funny boy."

Then he shared his true intentions: "I thought you would not like that."

I think I probably disappointed him with my understated reaction to such rehearsed and publicly staged naughtiness.
