I always made everybody sad

Daniel reflects from time to time on his sixth birthday. Unfortunately, it was the worst birthday of his life, as he eagerly mentioned on the day and reflects now from time to time. I asked him the other day why it was the worst birthday; it turns out that Ian would let him be on his side in some game, and somehow I think cousin Julia is potentially culpable as well.

Yesterday, which was his namesday (and mine), turned out to be "my worst namesday ever," every time he didn't get something he wanted, or encountered something undesirable, over the course of the day.

But back to the birthday: he talks about the party from time to time, and he remembers distinctly what each classmate brought. Talking about opening his presents, he said, "I pretty much didn't like anything that I got, but I still tried to not make them sad."

Then he added that, as he got to playing with his presents over time, he started liking them...
