Frown, recounted
Tonight, I asked Daniel how his day had gone, and he gave an answer more or less as follows:
"Good- actually, it was bad."
This is typical for Daniel. He sometimes forgets his duty to find the worst possible focus, in assessing or expressing his current state of mind, but he usually catches himself when this slump kicks in, and almost effortlessly gets back on track, dwelling on whatever happened that might have somehow clashed with his tastes, wishes or priorities.
He went on telling me about a few things that didn't quite go right, but the conclusion was heart-wrenching:
"...and I came home with a frown."
