From Russia, Via Ian, With Love
My boss has a very pleasant tendency to leave a box of candies on the desks of each person in my department, roughly a week or two before Christmas. He, himself, is from Russia, and it was unsurprising that this year's box of candies was an Eastern-European import with the brand-name "From Russia With Love," with a photograph of a matryosha doll on the front of the box.
I took my chocolates home and quietly put them somewhere in the back of the pantry, on the naive assumption that I'd be able to take them out at a more festive time. However, sometimes festivity is entirely spontaneous...
Within about 48 hours, on Saturday morning, Ian burst into Madeleine's room, where I was on the computer, and announced:
"Daddy, you've got to try one of these!! They're from Russia!!!"
Apparently, the boys had already tried approximately a quarter of them. I was glad that Ian did some scouting for me, and managed to recommend a high-quality candy for an early Saturday breakfast.
