Chipmunks R Us

Ian was singing a song I vaguely recognized from some horrendous commercial for a children's album back in the late 80's/early 90's. Just a phrase or two provided the hook: "time for joy, time for cheer" - or something like that, and I remembered a snippet of "song," from a "Christmas" song sung by Alvin and the Chipmunks. I don't think I've ever heard the song all the way through - especially not as sung by the Chipmunks, but that commercial, shown over and over again, was enough for me to recognize the provenance of this most excellent piece of music.

And yes, Ian was singing the same song, and had heard it performed by the same artists, and he sang it in its "Chipmunks," squeaky, play-the-music-at-four-times-the-speed-of-the-recording wonder.

But he provided an insight I hadn't considered:

It's pretty funny when you sing it like a chipmunk.

I have to admit, even if you're not an Alvin fan, it's pretty funny when Ian sings it like a chipmunk.
