The Evening of Discontent

Tonight, Amy took the children to a local science museum for a party that they hosted to celebrate their 25th anniversary, or "birthday". I met them there, but by the time I got there from work, it was time to leave. Apparently they didn't get that much time there either, because, in spite of his very docile nature, Daniel was actually complaining about how little time they had had there, and how not fun it was. In fact, he said that it was the worst birthday party he had ever been to. I hope the birthday-museum wasn't as disappointed as its guest was...

When I asked Ian how the party had gone, Daniel prompted him: "Say bad. Say bad."

...Bad, it turns out. The boys enumerated the minimal degree of activities that they had done. Yet, they didn't seem unhappy.

The boys went home with me, while Amy went shopping (even now), and when we got home, I asked them if they had had supper. Ian, as usual, had a twist of subtlety in his verdict:

"Well, she gave me a tuna melt. She called it supper, but it wasn't really supper for me."

What better to accompany a worst-ever birthday-party, than an ersatz supper...
